Help With Searching

General Instructions

If you have used other search engines, searching The Dubya Report should be similar.

  1. Enter a phrase or keywords in the text box.
  2. If you want more than the mininum number of results, use the pull-down list to select your preference.
  3. Click the search button.
  4. When the results of your search are displayed, click on one of the document titles to view the document.
  5. To find your keyword within the document, use the Find facility of your browser, usually under the Edit menu.

Search Criteria

  1. Words or phrases may be connected using and, or, and not e.g. Powell or Ashcroft
  2. When combining phrases or a word with a phrases, enclose the phrase in quotes, e.g. "middle east" and CIA
  3. Criteria are evaluated left to right, e.g. middle and east not road finds articles containing the words 'middle' and 'east,' and selects from those results any not containing 'road.'
  4. Parentheses may be used to change the order of evaluation, e.g. middle and (east not road) finds articles containing the word 'middle', and selects from those any containing 'east' but not 'road'.
  5. A * (asterisk) may be used as a matching character (wildcard), but only at the end of a word or words, e.g. pow* will find Powell, power, powder, etc. The * may be used in a phrase, e.g. lib* cons*.

About The Search Engine

The search engine used for this site is the Simple Web Indexing System for Humans - Enhanced (SWISH-E). Based on SWISH developed by Kevin Hughes, now of Hewlett-Packard, it is currently supported as part of the Digital Library at Berkeley.
